Kathryn Hamm, President of GayWeddings.com and co-author of THE NEW ART OF CAPTURING LOVE makes debut appearance in Charleston to share latest legal updates and same-sex wedding trends impacting the Palmetto State.
ARLINGTON, VA (October 10, 2014) – Kathryn Hamm, and co-author Thea Dodds, have covered thousands of miles this year to support the release of their groundbreaking book, The New Art of Capturing Love: The Essential Guide to Lesbian and Gay Wedding Photography. The tour, which began in San Francisco and then went on to Boston, St. Louis, Miami, Washington DC, Denver, Chicago, and Las Vegas, now heads to Charleston, South Carolina.
Hamm’s appearance coincides with the dramatic Supreme Court decision to decline to hear the pending marriage cases this term, resulting 7 new states (Virginia, Utah, Wisconsin, Indiana, Oklahoma; and, Colorado and Nevada) embracing marriage equality within 2 days’ time; and with the related domino effect of the respective jurisdictions of Circuit Court of Appeals leading to an expected recognition of marriage equality in 35 states and the District of Columbia by year’s end. South Carolina, a state with a marriage ban on the books but bound by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, received its first request for a same-sex marriage license on October 8 and advocacy groups have begun to challenge the ban.
“I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to speak to Charleston-area based wedding professionals about how they can prepare their business to better serve same-sex couples,” says Hamm, who is also an Education Expert for WeddingWire, the leading online vertical marketplace serving the $100 billion wedding and events industry. “One exciting aspect of our book, THE NEW ART OF CAPTURING LOVE, is that the gorgeous images of loving couples – who also happen to be an under-represented group – speak volumes. And, of course, I love talking about the latest trends and marriage milestones du jour!”
Sara Skinner, Owner and Lead Event Designer for event sponsor Scarlet Plan & Design, said, “We support marriage equality and give our all to every couple with whom we work with because we’ve seen first-hand how true love knows no bounds. We strongly believe that there is no specific definition of what love looks like, and THE NEW ART OF CAPTURING LOVE expresses that so beautifully. When it comes to the weddings we plan, our mantra has always been ‘we don’t care how you love; the only thing we care about is that you love.’
The book talk and discussion will be hosted by O’Hara & Flynn Wine Bar and Pink Dot Beauty Bar at 225 Meeting Street in Charleston on November 7 from 12-2pm. Advance registration is required. For more information, please visit: www.capturingloveguide.com/book-tour-and-author-appearances.
