The Capturing Love team of Thea Dodds and Kathryn Hamm have covered thousands of miles this year to support the release of their groundbreaking book, The New Art of Capturing Love: The Essential Guide to Lesbian and Gay Wedding Photography. The tour, which began in San Francisco and then went on to Boston, St. Louis, Miami, Washington, DC, Denver, now heads to Chicago.
Kathryn Hamm, president of GayWeddings.com, will be participating as a featured speaker at WeddingWire World / Chicago on August 11 at the Art Institute of Chicago. She’ll lead two talks — one on the “Wed We Can” movement and overall state of marriage equality as it impacts the wedding industry, followed by a break-out discussion geared to help wedding professionals understand the importance of reaching and better serving same-sex couples. Following the conference, representatives from Barbara’s Bookstore will join Kathryn for a book signing at the post-conference reception. Conference tickets are still available.
That evening, Chicagoan Christie Hefner is hosting a private VIP book party and signing to celebrate marriage equality and the release of The New Art of Capturing Love. Several local contributing photographers and featured couples will be on hand. Please contact Natalie Mulford of Ten Speed Press (ph: 510-285-2959) for more information about this event.
On August 12, at 9:30 am, The Guesthouse Hotel (4872 N Clark St), a new boutique hotel located in the Andersonville neighborhood, is delighted to welcome Kathryn for an intimate discussion, where she will share the inspirations behind the beautiful photography in The New Art of Capturing Love, as well as her thoughts on marriage equality and the growing same-sex wedding and event industry. Space is limited for the book signing and discussion, co-sponsored by Barbara’s Books; please contact to Rick Verkler (rverkler@theguesthousehotel.com), General Manager, The Guesthouse Hotel with questions or to RSVP.
Hamm and Dodds offer more than a users’ guide to photography: They teach us to read images and, in the process, remind us what love and joy really look like. — Chicago Tribune
The New Art of Capturing Love — which has been featured on MSNBC, ABC, CNN, NPR, Brides, Rangefinder, and Shutter Network (amongst others) includes a foreword by Martie Maguire of the Dixie Chicks and Courtyard Hounds — was recently featured in the Chicago Tribune’s Printers Row Review, noting that Capturing Love “reinvents wedding photography for LGBT couples.”
“Hamm and Dodds,” according the Printers Row Review, offers “a collection of heartwarming photos of same-sex couples celebrating their marriages, while offering photographers tips on how to shoot beautiful photos. But in the process, Hamm and Dodds offer more than a users’ guide to photography: They teach us to read images and, in the process, remind us what love and joy really look like.”
