(WASHINGTON DC – May 7, 2013) Wedding innovator Kathryn Hamm and award-winning photographer Thea Dodds have reached an agreement with Amphoto Books to write a book based upon their self-published photography guide, Capturing Love: The Art of Lesbian & Gay Wedding Photography. The new book, currently untitled and scheduled for release in the spring of 2014, will offer twice as much content as the original guide while staying true to its warm, accessible, and engaging visual style
Julie Mazur, Senior Editor, Amphoto Books, acquired world rights from Kathryn Beaumont at Kneerim, Williams & Bloom. Amphoto Books is an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group, a division of Random House, Inc., whose parent company is Bertelsmann AG.
Authors Kathryn Hamm and Thea Dodds wrote and self-published Capturing Love (www.capturingloveguide.com), a first-of-its-kind guide to photographing same-sex weddings with visual and crossover appeal, to teach professional photographers about the expertise required to photograph same-sex engagements and weddings. Kathryn and Thea have already been featured in a variety of outlets, including ABCNews.com, CNN.com, The Advocate, The Huffington Post, and more.
“We are delighted to include Kathryn and Thea’s work in our 2014 line-up,” said Mazur. “Their book was received by our team with enthusiasm and excitement, and we are looking forward to working with Thea and Kathryn to update and unveil the expanded version next year.”
“It’s a dream come true,” said Dodds, founder of Authentic Eye Photography and cofounder of the internationally recognized nonprofit Greener Photography. “To have brought Capturing Love—a much-needed resource—to life during such an exciting and important time was, in itself, a proud accomplishment for me and Kathryn. To receive the honor and distinction of making the leap from self-published to published author in such a short time is an absolute thrill.”
Hamm, President of GayWeddings.com, said, “With 50 million Americans now living in states where marriage equality has been fully embraced, the wedding market and professional photographers need this book more than ever. We are deeply grateful to Julie and her team. With their seasoned expertise, the strength of Amphoto Books’ platform, and the accessible and visual messages of Capturing Love, Thea and I are certain about one thing: wedding photography will never be the same again.”
Amphoto Books is also the publisher of such renowned photography authors as Bryan Peterson, Jose Villa, Elizabeth Messina, and Art Wolfe.
Hamm will celebrate the announcement among friends and family at the residence of Lael & Peter Brodsky in her hometown—Dallas, TX—on May 9 and will also speak to the Gay-Straight Alliance group—“True Colors”—of the Greenhill School in Addison, Texas. A local contributing photographer and two couples from Capturing Love are expected to attend the event at the Brodsky’s.
Both events on May 9 are open to members of the media. Please contact Kathryn Hamm (via email or phone / 703-224-8115) to make arrangements and schedule interviews with the authors and/or local contributing photographers and couples. A galley of Capturing Love is also available upon request.
